Portable, Arraigned For Assault, Injuring Inspector
The Nigerian singer, Portable, whose real name is Habeeb Adunni Olawunmi Okikiola, has been arraigned at the magistrate court in Ifo, Ogun State for assault and other charges. The police arrested him on Friday after he failed to turn himself in within the 72-hour ultimatum given to him by the police. Portable faces at least a 6-count charge, including assaulting a police officer and injuring an inspector. The charges also include beating up a man in Otta who filed a petition against him.The singer had initially claimed that police personnel stormed his bar at Sango Ota at the request of an internet fraudster, and that he earned his money legitimately. In a viral video that circulated on social media, Portable could be heard arguing that his arrest was unjustified, and that he was a "federal government liability."
During his detention, Portable spoke to Kanyi Daily, stating that the police were his friends and that he trusted and believed in them. However, he looked unhappy during his court appearance on Monday, as seen in a video shared online. The legal proceedings will continue, and it remains to be seen what the outcome will be for the controversial singer.
